Paludarium Shigelu

A prized member of the Supernormal family, have you met the Paludarium Shigelu?

The piece by Azuma Makoto was originally created for Broached Commissions and is based on the concept of a Wardian case, which enabled the safe transportation of plants over the seas, and was a revolution in the shipment of flora in the 1800s.

One of the first tests of a Wardian Case was in July 1833, when two of the contraptions successfully protected their cargo of ferns and grasses from Britain to Australia.

Azuma Makoto was inspired by the Wardian Cases, and biospheres with the notion that the encased plant could exist in any place on earth, throughout all seasons of the year.
